Toronto Is About To Get January’s Average Rainfall In One Weekend

Written by on January 9, 2020

We’re sorry to say it, but it looks like this weekend isn’t going to provide much light relief for Ontarians. Record-breaking rainfall is expected to make its way on Saturday, Jan. 11 during another Ontario storm. Flooding could be a potential issue as some areas are set to break their monthly January

Although numerous spots in Ontario will get so much rain, The Weather Network warns that some places could actually get their entire average rainfall for January in just 12 hours.

Toronto is expected to get about 51.8 mm during the downpour, which is apparently close to the city’s January average, per TWN.

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara regions, according to CHCH.

Windsor, London, and Ottawa are also expected to get their dose of average January rain.

If you head into the Kincardine and Sarnia area, though, you should expect much more rain. In fact, it’ll be closer to the 90 mm mark.

“All-time January daily precipitation records are in jeopardy with this storm, depending on the timing of the rainfall as it spills into two days,” said TWN meteorologist Tyler Hamilton.

“But some stations could hit their monthly precipitation average with the single storm this weekend.”

With a wild mix of winter weather expected across the province, the ice storm is expected to hit the northern part of the GTA, leaving the rain to the south.

However, there’s a potential for those treacherous freezing conditions to make landfall right in the 6ix, too.
