The federal government has unveiled its plan to start closing the pay gap between Canadian male and female workers.  Last year women earned 88.5 cents for every dollar that a full-time male worker earned, on average. The federal government has now introduced long-awaited, proactive pay-equity legislation for federally regulated workers. Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says the proposed bill would force employers to examine their compensation practices and ensure equal pay for work of equal value for all federally regulated employers with 10 or more workers. That includes telecommunication, banking, the federal public service and more.
