It was a New Year's Eve with one of Portugal's best musical groups, where our Tony Melo and the Starlight Ensemble shone and charmed.
The Renaissance by the Creek ripped through the seams during New Year's Eve, with the capacity of the enclosure long since exhausted.
When the coming of a famous Musical Ensemble like Santamaria is among us, allied to the best that we have in these bands, other things are to be expected but the success that we had the pleasure of witnessing. The Santamaria are a Portuguese band, formed in 1998 in Eurodance style. The band originated in Porto. With the first three albums they sold over 100,000 copies of each album and won 21 platinum and two gold records. The group has always been very popular around the country. The songs are mostly intended for dancing, but there are some ballads. The name Santamaria was the idea of António and Filipa Lemos. The group's first album was released in March 1998, by Vidisco, under the title Eu Sei, Tu És .... In April of the following year left the second album Sem Limite, also by Vidisco, containing a duet with the Danish singer Whigfield, in a Portuguese and English version of the song "Happy Wonder". At the end of May 2000, still with Vidisco edition, came out Voar. The following year, 2001, it is Reflexus' turn, the fourth album comes out with label Vidisco. This work would have a special edition with three extra tracks and an interactive track with various material including lyrics of songs and "video clips".
Also in 2001, they received the Golden Globes for "Best Group" in a year in which bands like the Xutos & Pontapés and The Gift were named.
In the year 2003 comes the compilation Boogie Woogie, by Vidisco, with the biggest hits of the band and five new songs. This work includes a DVD with an interview and all the video clips of the band.

The Santamaria return with a new album, 2Beat, was a work that entered, in spring 2005, directly to the 6th place of AFP's Top Official, the weekly chart of the 30 best selling albums in Portugal.
On November 30, 2013, to mark 15 years of existence, they chose the Porto Coliseum for the recording of a live CD and DVD.
New album and also new single from Santamaria in March 2015.
Now, in 2017, almost to commemorate twenty years of existence, behold the Santamaria have come to confirm all these years of great successes here in Toronto at the New Year's Eve from 2017 to 2018 ... and they did it that way.
Our applause also for Tony Melo and the Starlight Ensemble who showed that there are also very valuable people in our community. Let's look forward to 2019!
